I liked it but didn't love it the first time--but after reading it closely the second time around I fell in love with LHA's writing. The riffs, like the one you quoted, are amazing. And the tension over Kate's secret (only applying to one school) builds and builds. I also felt a little challenged at the turn the story takes mid-way, but overall, I think Catalyst is a great example of first person, present tense writing. Hi Kelly–
